Hi I'm Katelyn

I'm Practicing Fearlessness - every single day (including here!)

I have a confession.

I'm an idealist.

Bear with me, I come by this naturally and intentionally. This is how I believe we become the Changemakers, by Showing Up daily and guarding the spark.

To be honest, I’m not sure how to write about me, but here’s some snippets that seem relevant.

I live in motion: a stability-ball chair, a walking desk, and a “Treadmill Move” playlist that gets me dancing while I work. Movement sharpens my focus, and dancing makes everything more fun.

When asked how he would describe my sense of humor, my friend Sam said it is “Sarcastically mischievous”.

I am always honest (it’s almost a compunction)-but kind about it. I believe the people who use honesty to be rude are just assholes.

Right brain/left brain? I’m both. I’m analytical and creative at once—this mix lets me turn a brain-dump into strategy that includes a creative plan for photographs that tell the Story and make people feel the connection.

In some of my favorite moments, I’m a proud purveyor of innocent mischief.

I rarely fit the mold. Rather than bending like Gumby, I keep the idealism and figure out how to thrive. It’s freer—and more fun.

So tell me…

Just for fun.

Snapshots to get to know me a bit more (captions are clockwise).

  1.  My partner (Tim) and me at a hedge maze in Ireland. This was a last-minute addition (which he’s come to expect from me). I love mazes, and this was an incredible experience we still talk about.
  2. Cuddling with my puppy on the couch while being semi-productive (my daily planner is also there).
  3. Winter hiking adventure with my sister, Shelley, up in WA.
  4. Aunt and Uncle, and sister at the Pinecrest Theater, where I spent summers.
  5. My partner and I, and my besties here in Portland (Lora and Kostas), at Machu Picchu, who we see every week, and are my favorite travel partners.

I asked my friends what some interesting or unique things about me might be...

Helping People is My

Why

(and Always has Been)

I’ve spent my adult life so far working in clinical research (the photo is from a work trip  with the NIH). It’s been a great way that I can help people and make a difference. I’m drawn to brand photography through that same motivation — to help purpose-driven humans feel seen, understood, and empowered to share their uniqueness with the world.

I’ve always been a bit of a paradox-equal parts logic and heart. I’ll kick off any dance party or be the first to volunteer for the games, but I would rather have 3 deep conversations than be a social butterfly at a large party.

I’m a data-driven creative. In research, I translate the story between clean data points and messy human realities. In photography, I can take your story (even in a brain dump fashion) and collaborate to make images that have the needed heart and authenticity to Connect with your people and strategically support your goals.

I get to employ deep listening, curiosity, and problem solving that is both intentional and human. This is where I thrive.

I Believe...

The world would be a lot brighter (and a heck of a lot kinder) if more heart-led humans showed up. Bravely. Joyfully. Maybe a little sweaty, probably a little scared, but always willing to help others feel less alone.

That I can make a difference with a camera, a healthy amount of curiosity, and a belief that stories (the real, messy, honest kind) can shift everything. I’m here for the ones who are done pretending and ready to be seen—not as a personal brand™️, but as a whole, complex, wildly magical human.

We are better when we build together. When we share what we know. When we ask better questions. When we stop trying to be impressive and start trying to be real.

P.S.

Joy is non-negotiable.
Laughter moves strategy along.
Haters shouldn’t be given the time of day.
And Showing Up is the most radical, resilient thing we can do—so let’s do it. Again. And again.

Are you ready for some cuteness?

This is Iso, the face behind the name. He will stare into your eyes and you feel it your soul, is insanely smart (but selective), and, at 4, will still pounce on his toys.

The name is more than love (though I adore him) or branding (though it's memorable). Speckled Dog Stories has a story and, holy cow, have there been plot twists.

Speckled Dog Stories is a daily reminder to me that

the full story is messy.

Best Laid Plans

When I got Iso, I thought I’d have a constant companion: hikes, runs, you name it. Even with me trying my best, he has reactivity and anxiety.

I’ve worked with several trainers, one even set him back. We did make progress, but I was at my wits’ end. I didn’t know what to do. I even considered whether he would have a better life in another home.

Getting Support

A couple of years ago, my partner came into our lives and took over Iso’s immediate training and energy needs.

Being honest, this was unimaginable to me. I’ve always been told I could do anything and that I’m so resilient.  So I never got support when I was over my head. Honestly, I didn’t even know how to find it.

Our Life Today

Tim and I call ourselves Team Iso, a constant reminder that we are all better together. We’ve even taught Iso to do “Hands In”.

We’re still working on his reactivity and the stress that it has put on our lives. But I wouldn’t go back and trade Iso for anything, even with all the accommodations we need to make.

Telling the full, messy story is Connecting as it's real life and vulnerable. Getting the right support...that's game changing

I am...

&

The forest is where I feel

at home.

Just one

Last Thing

Another Confession: I’m still learning how to be fearless.

Being seen, truly, vulnerably seen, helps. We can’t be fearless if we are hiding or ashamed.

Even if I never meet you, if we never work together, if you have something that you want to build that is meaningful, joyful, or kind. Please, be fearless, the World needs more people who will lean into their idealism and find the strategy to break the mold.

Your work, your unique vision, matters.

Fearlessness doesn’t have to be loud. It’s choosing to be seen when it’s easier to hide.

If you do want help to Show Up, Connect, be Seen, and get support and tools to be fearless, I’d love to talk to you.

Lets

Connect

You deserve to be seen—bravely, joyfully, and as the wildly magical human you are.

I don’t work with everyone, and you don’t need to either. I work with the heart-led humans who are done pretending and ready to Show Up with kindness, courage, and maybe a little sweat.

We’ll craft something breathtaking—alive with joy, brimming with courage, and buzzing with the kind of energy that makes you say hell yes.
